Did You Know?

These are all the things you probably didn't know and won't enhance your life but are fun anyway:)

~The word "lethologica" describes the state of not being able to remember the word you want.  (Remember . . . )

~Lions cannot roar until they reach the age of two.  (So if you run into a baby lion, give it your best roar, just to spite it.)

~Short people have fewer back problems than tall people.  (Score for me!)

~The largest supply of alcohol in the universe is in deep space. Astronomers have spotted an alcohol cloud in the Milky Way that measures 288 billion miles across.  (Uhh . . .)

~Eating chocolate three times a month helps people live longer as opposed to people who overeat chocolate or do not eat chocolate at all.  (Enough said!)

~More than 6,000 people with pillow-related injuries check into U.S. emergency rooms every year.  (I guess there was a reason Mom told us not to.  If anything, to protect her reputation.  Can you imagine going to the emergency room because of a pillow?  Uh, talk about embarrassing!)

~Mintonette was the originally name for the sport of volleyball.

~Sir John Harington, the godson of Queen Elizabeth I, was the inventor of the toilet.  (Glad that wasn't me.)

~If you get depressed in the winter but happier in the summer, you might have seasonal affective disorder.  (Doesn't everyone have this in February?)

~In space astronauts cannot cry because there is no gravity and the tears cannot flow.  (That's where we should send the emotional people in our life.)

~If you see a sheep on its back, help it up. Sheep cannot get upon their own from this position.  (How do you that?  Aren't sheep heavy . . . and not coordinated?)

~Coca cola was originally green.  (I don't think it would be as popular if they hadn't changed!)

~The phrase "rule of thumb" comes from the old English rule that said you couldn't beat your wife with anything wider than your thumb.  (I will never use this phrase again.  That is just concerning.)

Personal thought - I miss being  kid.  I cannot pull of this yogurt-on-hairline-brownie-on-mouth look anymore.  Nor can I pull of the mimicking everything everyone says either.  And, even though I can build pillow forts, I cannot move through them at the speed this little guy can.  Sad.

Me and my siblings love building forts.  We stack our bean bag chairs, pillows and blankets to create a fortified pillow castle.  Then, we have one person be the lion and that person gets to creep around the fort and try to scare people by roaring.  Don't judge, you've probably done something like that!  Anyway, John Caleb was playing with us and quickly caught on to the game.  Elizabeth is champion screamer, squealer, hollerer, you name it, and she taught John Caleb a piercing yell.  You'd think Indians were attacking or something.  So everytime me or Nathan would be the lion, he and Elizabeth about deafened anyone near their side of the fort.  How does this relate?  Because I can't fit like I used too!  And I miss it!

Now that that sob story is over, here are some happier events of the week!   Luke got to watch KU beat Texas (oh yeah, we beat K-State too!  Wouldn't want you all to forget that!) and when Grandma brought him home from his Special Day, they brought a dozen different candies for the whole family.  Yeah, our family needed sugar.  Every time we have people over, they ask, "Is it ever quiet in your home?"  Are you kiddding?  Of course!  Well, at like, 2 in the morning;)  No lions then!

Last thing: You might have noticed the continually changing header.  Well, I am considering changing the name and playing around with ideas.  As I haven't decided, feedback is appreciated!  I enjoy experimenting with layouts, pictures, etc. I also enjoy the actual blogging.  For some, it is a school assignment, but for me, it is a way to write, to organize, to create, to document, to learn.  And it is something I enjoy and am passionate about.  I have had a lot of fun with this.  (Thank you Mrs. Mann, this has been one of my favorite assignment :)

    1. Thanks! Aren't forts fun? We are still trying to teach John Caleb the point of them is to play in them, not wreck them:)

    1. Hi Bethany! Yes, it is really nice having grandparents so close, though I think yours are a lot close than ours;) I think we (me and my brothers) all enjoy having Grandma and Grandpa to ourselves, since that never happens other wise!

  5. I really like your new look on your blog. I remember experimenting with my old one quite a bit when I was in high school. Now I am a rather sad and unfaithful blogger...but I definitely enjoy reading your blog and am glad you are enjoying it so much!

The random facts are fun and so is hearing about your family in action!
