Snickerdoodle Brownies

My mom and my dad are unified on most things, like God, faith, money, children, etc.  But when it comes to desserts, well, thats a different story.  My dad is a lot like his mother; not very rich, not very sweet, and definitely not very chocolate-y.

Me and my mom are the exact opposite.  We like the cheesecakes, brownies and mousses of this world, all chocolate.  Does this sound familiar?

So (thanks to Pinterest) I have found a recipe that I thought could breach the dessert divider.  One of my dad's favorites are snickerdoodles and as I have said before, me and my mom, well, we could live off of brownies.  You know when Jesus said man does not live on bread alone?  That's because he knew some genius would create brownies.

These brownies . . . really aren't brownies.  They might be shaped like them, but thats about it.  However, I just loved the idea of combining both my parents distinctly different tastes into one dessert so I am keeping the name.

These are thick, a little doughy and chock full of cinnamon sugar goodness.

My family decided it was like a cross between snickerdoodles and Spice Bars (a family recipe) rather than snickerdoodles and brownies.  That is way more appealing, but it would be interesting to combine chocolate and cinnamon/sugar and see what you came up with.  Maybe a snickerdoodle base with chocolate chips?  Hmmm . . . I'll have to think about that one.

Snickerdoodle Brownies
Recipe Source: The Sweet {Tooth} Life
2-2/3 cup flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
1-3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup applesauce
2 eggs
1 tbsp. vanilla

Cinnamon Sugar Mixture

Preheat oven to 350.  Spray a 9x13 pan.
Beat butter, applesauce, and sugar in a bowl until combined.  Combine flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt and add to butter mixture.  Add eggs and vanilla and beat well.
Spread into pan and bake for 20 minutes.  Immediately sprinkle cinnamon and sugar mixture over top.
Cool before cutting and enjoy!

But really, when Jesus said man does not live on bread alone, He meant we can't expect to make it successfully through life without Him.  Even if our exterior screams popular and successful, if our soul is not being fed by God, our soul is dying.  We have to feed our physical bodies, food like the brownies above, because we need food to be sustained.  Same goes for our souls and I don't think I've been eating the "brownies" of the Bible like I have the brownies of this world.  So as I eat these brownies, pray I'll remember to savor God's word just as much.
