Apple Crisp

One of the best things that happens when your mom has a baby is that you are relieved from kitchen duty for at least a week.  Your grandma does all the cleaning and dishwashing and peope bring all kinds of food that you don't have to prepare.  One of these recipes has become an often requested, much enjoyed family favorite.  Our friends gave us this recipe.  As you know, my dad doesn't like chocolate, but he does like cinnamon and fall spices, especially apple pies.  Now for me and my mom, pie crust is time consuming and messy to make.  (I know, it is easy for all you people who do it a lot . . . but we do not fall into that category!)  But, this apple crisp tastes a lot like apple pie, has a crust that bakes along with the crisp, and a no fail result!

Apple Crisp

Crust:
Sift together 2-2/3 cup flour, 3 tsp. sugar and 1 tsp. salt.  Place in a 9x13 dish.  Add 1 cup oil and 1/4 cup milk' mix and dough against bottom of pan to form crust.

Filling:
4 apples (we use Granny Smith), peeled, cored and chopped, about 8 cups
2 cups sugar
2 cups sour cream
1 tsp. lemon juic
2 tsp. cinnamon

Note: My brother mixes the last four ingredients together and then adds the apples, but I toss the apples in the lemon juice and then add the rest.  It does turn out the same way each time, so its up to you:)

Pour over crust.

Creme Topping:
2/3 cup flour
2/3 cup sugar
4 tbsp. butter, room temperature

Combine with fork until flaky and then sprinkle over apple mixture.

Bake at 425 for 10 minutes and then reduce heat to 350 and continue to bake for 45 minutes.

They said you can half it for a pie, but it will be full and will need a pan to go underneath it.  I personally have never tried it.

I love seeing different people use their gifts to bless others.  Some people are passionate about cooking, (like me) some like cleaning (not like me . . . you rock cleaners!), some are good listeners . . . the list goes on.  Seeing people use the talents God has given them to bless others reminds to appreciate their differences.  It also gives me examples of service.

P.S. I tried so hard to get a picture of this onto this post, but let's just say I finally admitted defeat and surrendered to the computer (which I am going to move away from as soon as I finish this!)  I tried uploading it from this site, but it wouldn't let me.  I tried to upload it on our Shutterfly and copy the URL and post, but it was protected.  I tried posting the picture on a public shutterfly account, but then our Internet quit.  So I apologize and hope that the recipe looks good even without the picture!

Update: 4/13. New photos! And adjusted recipe!
